Biography

Rita Angotzi was an Italian sprinter in the 1980s. She was born in Sardinia and at the 1987 World Athletics Championships in Roma, she became the first person from the Italian island to take part in the Worlds.

Coached by Francesco Garau at the Oristano athletic club Angotzi won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 1987 Mediterranean Games behind her team-mate and gold medal winner Marisa Masullp. She also won a silver in the sprint relay. A year later at the Seoul Olympics Angotzi qualified for the quarter-final of the 200 metres after setting a personal best 23.33 in her heat. Between 1985-88 she earned 11 international caps.

She abandoned her active career in 1989 to pursue her academic career. In the 2000s she worked for a year at the St. George Hospital, London, and then moved with her husband Lucio to Bergen (Norway) to work as a specialist in marine molecular biology.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.36 (1988); 200 – 23.33 (1988).
