Biography

Matilde Moraschi was an Italian basketball player, fencer, sprinter, and discus thrower. As a basketball player she won the Italian championship six times: in 1934 and 1935 with Canottieri Milano, and from 1936 to 1939 with Ambrosiana-Inter. After winning the 1934 championship with Canottieri, Matilde and her teammates were awarded “bronze medals for athletic value.” She stopped playing at the end of the 1940-1941 season without ever playing for the national team, not even at the 1938 European Championships held in Roma. In the mid-1930s she also competed in foil fencing.

In athletics Moraschi specialized in sprints and discus. She began her sporting activity at the club Forza e Coraggio in Milano, a team with which at the age of 17 she participated in her first Italian championship in Bologna 1927, with a third place in the discus throw with 26.39. In the discus she was an Italian record holder with 26.95, but for just 11 days in August-September 1927. She then competed in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics in the 100 meters, being eliminated in the heats. She later joined the Pro Patria et Libertate of Busto Arsizio club.

Personal Best: 100 – 13.6 (1928).
