Biography

Ada Turci was a javelin specialist who won 12 Italian titles (1943, 1946-55, 1958), an Italian record that lasted until 2008 when Claudia Coslovich won her 13th Italian javelin title. Turci began her career with Venchi Unica of Torino where she won her first three Italian titles. She later moved to other clubs of the city, including Sipra, Pelnova and Sportnova. From 1951-55 she won five national titles with Sport Club Italia of Bergamo. Turci set two Italian records – the first at Milano on 22 June 1952 (42.71) and the second at Budapest on 21 August 1955 with 43.51, her personal best. She earned 33 international caps from 1940-59.

After finishing her sporting career, Ada Turci was a member of the Torino municipality and until 1987 was also a keeper of the Stadio Comunale, the home of two of Torino’s major clubs, Juventus FC and F.C. Torino.
