Biography

Sandro Bellucci was an Italian racewalker who was a member of military club Fiamme Gialle, coached by the Olympian Gianni Corsaro. After his international début with the youth national team, Bellucci become one of the best Italian racewalkers, highlighted by his bronze medal at the 1981 World Cup and a bronze in the 1984 Olympic 50 km. His personal bests were 41:01.4 (10 km), 1-23:16.0 (20 km) and 3-48:52.0 in the 50 km. In his 20-year career, Bellucci also won the Roma-Castelgandolfo walk in 1979 and 1981, and earned 39 caps with the Azzurri team. After his retirement, he became a walking coach for the Atletica Roma Sud club. In honor of his sporting achievements, Bellucci was awarded a gold medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
