Biography

A Mexican native, Miguel Camberos lived in the US for most of his life, and eventually obtained US citizenship. While obtaining his high school diploma as an adult, he was discovered as a javelin throwing talent while trying out for the football team. He continued to compete regionally after graduating from U Cal Berkeley, and was selected for the 1932 Mexican Olympic team. In the midst of the Great Depression, Cambreros feared he would lose his job as a pharmacist if he would attend the Los Angeles Games. But his pharmacist friends filled in for him, standing in for him at his job, while Miguel Cambreros competed in the Olympics.
