Biography

Daniel André was a Mauritian footballer, judoka, sprinter, and coach. André arrived on the island of Mauritius in 1980 when he was 16. André was a student at Saint Andrew College where he was part of the college’s football team. André became a talented sprinter, competing in the 100, 200, and 400 metres. In 1984 André set a Mauritian record in the 400 metres that stood until 1987.

André was one of the first Mauritian athletes to go to the Olympics when Mauritius competed for the first time at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. André competed in the 100, 200, and 400 metres, but did not advance from any of his heats. André had more success at the second edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games, which were held in 1985 in Mauritius. He won two silver medals and a bronze. André became an athletics coach in 1992 and later was a lecturer for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
