Biography

Carla Beurskens was the leading Dutch distance runner throughout her career, winning 23 Dutch titles in events ranging between 3000 m and the marathon. Beurskens was mostly a marathon runner, however. She was most successful in the Honolulu Marathon, an event she entered ten times and won on eight occasions. Never very successful in international championships - a fifth place in the 1982 European Championship marathon being her best performance - she also recorded marathon victories in Rotterdam, Frankfurt, Nagoya, Eindhoven and Enschede. In 1986, she placed second in the London marathon, and also finished in that position in the 1987 Tokyo marathon, in which she set a new Dutch record that would hold out until 2003.
