Biography

For a few years following World War I August Schotte was one of the best racewalkers in the Netherlands, which saw him win eleven national titles. He won his first Dutch title in 1918 with victory in the 25 km event, with him going on to win the race for the next three years. In 1919 Schotte won the national titles in the 1,500 metres, 3,500 metres, and 10 km, a feat he repeated in 1921. In 1920 he also won the Dutch title in the 10 km and competed in the 3,500 metres at the Antwerpen Olympics.
