Kazimierz Fiałka was one of the best long-distance runners in Poland during the interwar period. During this time Fiałka won seven national titles with victories in the 5,000 metres (1933–34), the 10,000 metres (1933–35), and the cross-country race (1934–35). He ran in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was forced to withdraw from the race after 20kms due to an Achilles tendon injury. After the Olympics Fiałka fought during World War II and was awarded with the Cross of Valour.
