Biography

Stanisław Grędziński won two gold medals at the 1966 European Championships in Budapest. With Jan Werner, Edmund Borowski and Andrzej Badeński, the quartet won the 4x400 relay, with Grędziński also winning the 400 metres. Grędziński was a two-time national champion in the 400 metres, winning the title in 1966 and 1969. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, he was part of the 4x400 relay team that finished in fourth place, setting a national record in the process.

After his athletics career, Grędziński became a sports activist, becoming the vice-president of the People’s Sports Teams in Wałbrzych. He also worked with the Polish Athletics Association and was a member of the Regional Olympic Council in Wrocław.

In 1971, Grędziński graduated from the Wrocław University of Technology with a master’s degree in engineering. He supervised the construction of several sports venues in Wałbrzych and the surrounding areas.

Grędziński earned multiple awards during his career. The President of the Republic of Poland awarded him with the Gold Cross of Merit, the Minister of Sport awarded him with bronze, silver and gold badges for Merit for Sport, and the same badges for Outstanding Sports Achievements. In 1999, Grędziński was awarded with the Golden Cross of Merit.
