Biography

Edward Szklarczyk was a steeplechase specialist, who won the Polish title in that event for four consecutive years – 1963-66. He was also Polish cross-country champion in 1963. He had four seconds (1967-68 steeplechase, 1962 5K, and 1965 cross-country) and one third (1970 steeplechase) at the Polish nationals. Szklarczyk was capped 18 times for Poland between 1962-68, competing in both the steeplechase and 1,500 metres. At the 1965 European Cup final in Stuttgart he placed third in the steeplechase. He competed for various clubs over the years, including MMKS Biała Góra z Suchej (1960-61), Legia Warszawa (1962-65) and Zawiszy Bydgoszcz (1966-71). Sklarczyk graduated from the Academy of Physical Education in Poznań.

Personal Bests: 1,500 – 3:45.7 (1962); 3,000S – 8:34.6 (1970), 5K – 14:11.0 (1970).
