Gordon Day had the following podium finishes at major championships: 1st in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×440 yards relay (with Gert Potgieter, Malcolm Spence, and the non-Olympian Gerald Evans), 3rd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 220 yards.
