Biography

Middleweight fighter Milo Sarens was eliminated from the Olympic boxing competition in Roma in his first fight. He had been a quarter-finalist at the 1959 European Championships.

Saerens turned pro shortly afterwards, mostly fighting in Belgian bouts and gaining the national middleweight title in 1962, defeating Bob Stevens by decision. Sarens greatest claim to fame was fighting the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson in a 1963 bout, in which Sarens lasted 7 rounds against the all-time great. Saerens professional record was 25 wins (14 by KO), 9 losses (4 by KO), and 4 draws.
