Biography

Johan Nyström was a Swedish long-distance runner who represented Östermalms IK. Nyström was one of two Swedes who ran in the marathon at the 1900 Paris Olympics. The race was run in hot conditions, with temperatures eventually reaching 39° C (102° F), with the race starting at the hottest part of the day at 2:30pm. The runners made four circuits of the 500 metre track before making out for the streets of Paris, although Nyström withdrew from the race before completing one lap of the stadium.
