Biography
Swedish track and field athlete Paul Zerling was a national champion in sprinting and the hurdles. Zerling won his first national title as part of the quartet in the 4 x 400 metres relay in 1912, and he was part of the team that won the 4 x 100 metres relay title the following year. In 1914 and 1915 he won back-to-back Swedish titles in the 400 metres hurdles, in addition to winning the 110 metres hurdles title in 1915.
At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics Zerling ran in the 400 metres and the 4 × 400 metres relay races, reaching the semi-finals in the former. He was also scheduled to compete in the 110 metres hurdles, long jump, and pentathlon at the Stockholm Games but did not start in any of those events.
In 1912 Zerling set a Swedish record in the 110 metres hurdles of 15.9 seconds, which stood until 1918. From 1914 to 1916 he was also the Swedish record holder in the 400 metres hurdles.
