Biography

Karel Kolář starting sports as a footballer, turning to athletics in 1971. Primarily a 400 metre runner, he competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics in that event and the 4x400 relay. Kolář ran for Red Star Praha and also Jablonec Liaz. He was 1979 European Indoor Champion in the 400, and won a silver medal in that event in 1980. He was European (Outdoor) silver medalist in the 400. He competed for Czechoslovakia in nine international matches including four European Cups.

Kolář was Czechoslovakian champion in the 400 in 1978-80 and won the 200 in 1979-80. He also won three national indoor titles. After his career ended due to knee arthritis, Kolář became a trainer and a masseuse.

Personal Best: 400 – 45.77 (1978).
