Biography

Ku Chin-Shui was one of the Amis, or Pangcah, people, the aboriginal native peoples of Taiwan. In addition to his 1984 Olympic appearance, Ku won gold at the 1985 Asian Games in the decathlon, also winning a silver in 1983. In 1999 Ku was accused of being involved in an explosion on a Uni Air flight, which ruined his reputation. Although he was acquitted, it was not until 2011. He was forced to work during this time in a menial job at a steel factory, because the allegations made employers fear hiring him. Ku later coached at Taichung Municipal Chung Ming Senior High School. He died from leukemia at age 56.
