Ugandan track and field athlete Joel Otim represented his nation as a sprinter in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Otim ran in both the 100 metres and the 400 metres at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo, earning him a spot on the Ugandan team for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. At the Barcelona Games he ran in the 100 metres but was eliminated in the heats. After his career on the track Otim served as the Vice-President of the Uganda Olympians Association from its inception in 2014 until his death.
