Boris Yakovlev was a race walker who specialized in the 20 km. He competed at the 1969, 1971, and 1978 European Championships, placing seventh, seventh, and fourth, respectively. Yakovlev was runner-up at the 1979 Lugano Trophy in 1-19:46 on a short course. He competed at the 1980 Olympics in the 50 km, but was disqualified. Yakovlev later became a national walking coach.
