Biography

Kathy Kelly competed in the 1936 Olympics while still a student at Keowee High School in Seneca, South Carolina. Kelly qualified for the Olympic Team by winning a jump-off for the third spot over Ida Myers, both having jumped 5-0½ [1.53]. She attended Greenville Women’s College, which later became part of Furman University. Per college policy, she was forced to leave the school after she married in December 1938. She then took up basketball, playing for Lonsdale Mill’s team in Seneca, South Carolina, which often competed in the Southern Textile Basketball Tournament. Kelly eventually became a beautician.

Personal Best: HJ – 5-1¼ [1.55] (1936).
