Biography

William Burton was a surprise qualifier for the 1948 Olympic team in the discus throw, as he had never placed at the NCAA or AAU Meet. But he finished third at the Trials, when he recorded his PR of 49.93 (163-9¾) in the qualifying round, which carried over for the final marks. Burton was unable to make the final of the discus at the 1948 London Olympics. Burton served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant during World War II and the Korean War.
