Biography

Charlie Capozzoli was a distance runner at Georgetown and for the New York AC. He was AAU 3-mile champion in 1953 and won the NCAA and IC4A Cross-Country championship in 1952. At the NCAA track championships, Capozzoli was runner-up in the 2-mile in 1951 and 1953 and in the 5,000 metres in 1952. He also won the IC4A 2-mile championship in 1952-53. In 1952, shortly after the Helsinki Olympics, Capozzoli set an American record of 13:51.8 for 3-miles at a meet in London. He later became a salesman and settled in Dana Point, California.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:51.6 (1953); Mile – 4:07.8 (1953); 2 miles – 8:55.3i (1953); 3 miles – 13:51.8 (1952); 5000 – 14:27.4 (1953).
