Biography

Bill Cox was still attending Mercersburg Academy when he went to Paris for the 1924 Games and won his Olympic bronze medal the day after he had celebrated his 20th birthday He later enrolled at Penn State and won eight IC4A titles. Cox won the cross-country individual title in 1926 and 1927 and Penn State won the team race in both those years. Cox also won the IC4A mile in 1927 and indoor mile in 1927-28. At the Olympics, Bill Cox finished eighth in a field of 44 runners and was the second scoring man on the U.S. team which took third place. Cox had a best mile time of 4:18.6, which he posted in winning the 1927 IC4A indoor title. He also won the AAU Junior one mile in 1924.
