Biography

Running for Brigham Young, Paul Cummings won the NCAA mile in 1974. He was AAU indoor mile champion in 1975-76. He later turned to longer distances and was TAC 3-mile champion indoors in 1982 and TAC half-marathon champion in 1987. Cumming won the 1983 USA Half-Marathon title in a then world best time of 61:32. He was also the 1976 Penn Relays Champion over 1,500 metres. Cummings drowned when his fishing canoe was tipped over by heavy winds.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:37.6i (1979); Mile – 3:56.4 (1974); 2 miles – 8:25.2i (1982); 5000 – 13:19.62 (1982); 10000 – 27:43.7 (1984); Mar – 2-11:31 (1986); 3000S – 8:52.5 (1979).
