Biography

Sydney Hatch was from River Forest, Illinois, and represented the Chicago AA team which took second place, out of only two teams, in the 4-mile team race at the 1904 Games. Individually, Hatch finished last of the 10-man field. He also competed in the marathon in 1904, finishing eighth, and placed 14th in the 1908 Olympic marathon. Hatch won the Missouri AC marathon in 1906, 1907, and 1908, but he did not have any success at the Boston Marathon until almost a decade had passed. There, he finished third in 1915 and 1916, and achieved his best placing by finishing second in 1917.
