Biography

Herbert Jamison was described by his contemporaries as an “above mediocre” sprinter. Because his favorite event, the 200m, was not on the program in Athens, he chose to run in the 400m, but he was no match for Tom Burke and finished some 10 meters behind the AAU champion. After graduating from Princeton in 1897, Jamison entered the family business, which manufactured agricultural implements, but after seven years he established his own insurance agency in Peoria and remained in that business until his death.

Personal Bests: 400 – 55.2 (1896).
