Biography

John Kuck of Emporia State, and later of the Kansas AC and Los Angeles TC, improved the world shot put record three times in 1928. Only the third of these performances was officially recognized when he won the Olympic title with a mark of 52-0¾ (15.87). Kuck won the NCAA shot title in 1926 and was AAU champion the following year. In 1926 he set a US javelin record of 214-2⅛ (65.28) and won the AAU javelin title that year. Kuck also won both the shot put and javelin at the Drake and Kansas Relays.
