Biography

Bob Mimm was a race walker who competed in the 20 km at the 1960 Roma Olympics. His best finishes in AAU walk events were second in the 1959 50 km. and third in the 1961 3 km. He competed for Rutgers, Millersville University, Penn Athletic Club (AC), the Philadelphia AC, and later the Shore AC. In college he was a runner on the track team but discovered race walking after graduation. Mimm was so skinny that his friends nicknamed him “Fats.”

Mimm continued to race walk as he got older, competing for many years in World Masters competition. He was a dominant walker in US Masters events. Mimm had several different careers. He worked as a teacher, for the US Postal Service, and with the military and the federal government.
