Biography

Tom O’Hara was AAU 1,500 champion in 1964 and placed second in the 1963 AAU mile. He competed for Loyola of Illinois and the Mayor Daley Youth Club. While at Loyola he won the 1962 NCAA cross-country meet. O’Hara was best known for two indoor runs in the winter of 1964. On 13 February 1964 he broke the world indoor mile record, running 3:56.6, and on 6 March, he bettered that with 3:56.4, a mark that stood for 14 years.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:38.1 (1964); Mile – 3:56.4i (1964).
