Biography

In the 1923 AAU cross-country championships, Art Studenroth finished second to the great Finnish runner Ville Ritola, but Studenroth led his Meadowbrook Club of Philadelphia to the team title. Ritola and Studenroth met again over the country at the 1924 Olympics when Ritola placed second behind Paavo Nurmi. Running in extraordinary heat, Studenroth did well to finish sixth overall and was the second scoring member of the U.S. team that took the silver medals.
