Norm Tate never won an outdoor AAU championship, placing second in 1969 in the triple jump and in 1970 in the long jump. But indoors, he won six titles – long jump in 1966 and 1969-71, and triple jump in 1969-70. He was also NCAA triple jump champion in 1963 for North Carolina Central, and later competed for the NY Pioneer Club.
At the Penn Relays Tate won eight senior titles - long jump in 1964-65, triple jump in 1963-65, 4x110y relay in 1964, and 4x220y relay in 1964-65, in addition to five Olympic Development titles - the long jump in 1968, 1971-72 and the triple jump in 1967-68. He was named the Penn Relays outstanding performer in 1964 and is a member of their Wall of Fame. Tate also won the long jump and triple jump at the 1964-65 NAIA Championships. He later became a track coach, notably at Rowan University.
