Biography

Les Tipton was NCAA javelin champion in 1964, competing for the University of Oregon. He also finished fifth in that event in 1962. He was fifth at the AAU Meet in 1969. Tipton competed at both the 1964 and 1972 Olympic Trials, finishing second in 1964 and fifth in 1968. Tipton graduated from Oregon with a degree in art and returned to the school to obtain a masters’ degree in art. He later became a college professor.
