Biography

Ted Vogel qualified for the 1948 Olympic Team by being the first-placed American at all three of the Olympic selection races. He was third in the 1947 Boston Marathon, second in the 1948 Boston Marathon, and won the 1948 AAU Marathon at Yonkers. He ran for Tufts and the Boston AA. His major road race win came at the 1948 Manchester (NH) Road Race, always held on Thanksgiving morning. On the track he was AAU Champion in the 10K in 1945, and placed third in 1943 and 1946.

Vogel stopped competing after the 1949 track season, but always ran for exercise. During World War II he served in the North Pacific with the US Navy. Vogel worked for many years with the Hallmark Company, serving in sales, and later managing the Hallmark Gallery on 5th Avenue in New York City. After retirement, he, his wife, and his son opened Vogel’s Hallmark Shop in the Fox Run Mall in Newington, New Hampshire.
