Biography

East German speed skater Cornelia Jacob, had short career as a sprinter. Still a junior, she débuted internationally at the 1978 World Sprint Championships, where she placed 7th. After breaking all Junior World Records in the sprint events over 1978-79, she retained her top position internationally, placing sixth at the World Sprints in 1980 and sixth at the Lake Placid 500 metres. But Jacob then retired, although she had a brief comeback in 1983. Jacob won her only East German national title in 1978 when she won the sprint title. She later married her team-mate Steffen Doering. She and her husband were affiliated to TSC Berlin, where they both became honorary members in the 1990s.

Personal Bests: 500 – 41.0 (1979); 1000 – 1:23.9 (1979); 1500 – 2:16.04 (1978); 3000 – 4:50.47 (1979); 5000 – 8:50.3 (1976).
