Biography

A member of the Gruppo Forestale, Tonino Biondini won seven Italian titles and reached eighth place in the 50 km at the 1974 Falun World Championships. In 1976 he won the fifth edition of the Marcialonga. He took part at the 1972 and 1976 Winter Olympics and later became coach of the national team.

Biondini was one of the founders of the Val Dragone Nordic ski school in Frassinoro but due to an incurable disease, he died at the end of June 1983 at age 38. His son, Alessandro, has been a member of the national cross-country ski team and married the former Olympic cross-country skier Arianna Follis. On 10 June 2009 the Modena section of the National Forestry Association was named after Tonino Biondini.
