From 1947 to 1961 ice hockey player Bixio Celio represented HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss leagues. Celio also played in 23 matches for the Swiss national team, including competing at the 1952 Oslo Olympics. The ice hockey tournament at the Games also served as both the European and World Championships, with the Swiss team finishing fifth at the Olympics, resulting in them also winning bronze at the European Championships. Celio retried from the sport at the age of 31 and became a disciplinarian commissioner in the Swiss hockey league. Outside of hockey he practiced law and started a political career.
