Biography

Philippe, Count d’Ursel competed in Alpine skiing at the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics, without distinction. Little is known of the life of Philippe, but he is descended from an aristocratic European family, the Ursels, with roots in Schmalkalden, Germany. The family served ceremonial functions at the court of the Count of Flanders, and members of the Ursel family have been affiliated with many noble Belgian houses. Philippe was considered a cadet member of the family, or somewhat lower in the pecking order.
