Stan Fail grew up near Turlock, California, representing the DeMorra Skating Club. He started skating nationally in 1953 at the US Intermediate Championships, and in 1955 won the Great Lakes Outdoor all-around. In 1960 he was second at the US all-around, winning the 5-mile race. Fail also competed in cycling, raced motorcycles at Ascot Park in Glendora, California, and had played football both in high school and at Compton Junior College.
Fail later settled back near his home where first he ran a dairy and then operated a very popular donut shop, Fail’s Donut Factory from 1980-89. He then became an Almond Industry representative, working with them from 1990 until his retirement in 2017.
