Biography

Manfred Geyer won a bronze medal at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games in the relay together with Frank Ullrich, Karl-Heinz Menz and Manfred Beer, finishing behind the Soviet Union and Finland. Geyer also finished 12th over 20 km in 1976, and won two relay bronze medals at the World Championships in 1973 and 1977. At the East German Championships, Geyer won a relay title in 1972 with ASK Vorwärts Oberhof and the club was runner-up in 1978. Individually, he won the GDR Nationals in the 1976 10 km, and was runner-up over 20 km in 1974 and 1976.

After his active career he became a very successful biathlon coach, first from 1976-2003 as a women’s coach at the biathlon sports center in Oberhof, then as Swiss national coach 2004-10 and later as the South Korean national coach.
