Biography

Tim Dement made the 1972 Olympic team, but it was a big upset. The favorite in the flyweight class was Bobby Hunter, but Hunter was an unusual favorite as he was in prison at the time of the Olympic Trials, serving 18 years for manslaughter. He was allowed to compete but was upset by a Dement decision in the Trials, and there were rumors that the officials did not want Hunter to win.

Dement was from Bossier City, Louisiana and was the son of the mayor of the town, George Dement. Tim Dement was also an excellent fighter, having won the 1971 trials for the Pan American team, but at 16-years-old, was deemed too young to compete. He never boxed professionally, but later became a police officer in Bossier City.
