Biography

At the 1924 Winter Olympics, Alfons Julen joined his brother Anton, as well as Alfred Aufdenblatten and Denis Vaucher, in winning a gold medal in the military ski patrol event. Alfons also entered in the 50 km cross-country skiing event, but did not start the race. Four years later, at the 1928 edition, he competed in the 18 km event, but failed to finish. He also came in third, alongside Otto Furrer, Frantz Kunz, and Hugo Lehner, in the military ski patrol, which was a demonstration event at these Games. Julen was a member of Skiclub Zermatt, and his cousins Oswald and Simon were also Olympians, competing in the 1936 Nordic combined individual and the 1924 50 km cross-country ski respectively.
