Goaltender Trevor Kidd began his ice hockey career in the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association’s Eastman Selects from 1987-1988. The following season he joined the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings and stayed with them until 1991, during which time he was named Goaltender of the Year in 1990, in addition to winning a gold medal at that year’s Junior World Championships. During the 1990-1991 season he was traded to the league’s Spokane Chiefs and helped them capture that year’s Memorial Cup, given annually to Canada’s junior men’s ice hockey championships. He also took home a second gold medal from the Junior World Championships in 1991. He was picked up by the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League that year, but also managed to make appearances at the 1992 Junior World Championships and Winter Olympics. At the latter tournament he minded the net for Canada’s 10-0 victory over Norway and took home a silver medal, Canada’s first podium finish in the sport since 1968.
Kidd remained with the Flames until 1997, but also spent a portion of the 1992-1993 season with the International Hockey League’s Salt Lake Golden Eagles. Thereafter he remained in the NHL until 2004, suiting up for the Carolina Hurricanes (1997-1999), Florida Panthers (1999-2002), and Toronto Maple Leafs (2002-2004). During the 2004-2005 NHL lockout he played for Sweden’s HC Orebro 90 and chose to remain in Europe for the following season with Germany’s Hannover Scorpions. Although not officially retired, he has not played an official game since. He now owns Mountain Bean Coffee Co., a Canadian-based company.
