Austrian rower Helfried Jutschitsch came ninth with the lightweight coxless fours at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He finished sixth in the lightweight eights at both the 1991 and 1992 World Championships, and at the 1994 and 1995 Worlds Jutschitsch achieved ninth-place finishes in the lightweight coxless four. In 1998, he finished seventh in the lightweight double sculls. At the 1998 and 1999 Worlds, Jurtschitsch again rowed in the lightweight coxless four, which finished fifth each time. He won the overall World Cup title in 2000.
In 2003, Jurtschitsch, along with his teammates Martin Kobau and Norbert Lambing, tested positive for nandrolone in a doping test and was suspended for six months. The cause was determined to be the ingestion of a contaminated dietary supplement.
