Biography

Gabe Jennings was a middle-distance runner who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He attended Stanford University where he won NCAA titles in the 2000 mile (indoors) and the 1,500 metres (outdoors) He was also second in the 1,500 outdoors in 2001. He helped Stanford win NCAA Indoor titles in the distance medley relay in both 2000 and 2001. As a youth he won the high 1,500 at the Penn Relays in 1997 and 1998. Jennings also competed at the 2001 World Championships, but did not advance past the first round. He was inducted into the Stanford Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

Jennings was a known as a free spirit, who once compared the mile to jazz music. He often played the bongos in the stands while other track events were being contested. In 2003, he embarked on a four-month, 6,000-mile solo bike trek to Brazil, where he contracted hepatitis A and almost starved to death. He later returned to school and earned a law degree in 2012 from the University of Oregon.
