Lamine Keita

Lamine Keita studied to be a hydraulic engineer in Dakar and Grenoble. He then became Director-General for Hydraulics and Energy and later Minister for Industrial Development and Tourism in Mali. In 1987 Keita became Malian Ambassador to Belgium. As a youth he was a top basketball player and he later became President of the National Federation and Association of African Amateur Basketball Federations (1968-76) and Vice-President of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). In 1970 Keita became President of the Malian Olympic Committee.

Keita was co-opted onto the IOC in June 1977. He was named to the Solidarity Commission in 1980 and the Radio and Television Commission in 1984. In 1999 he was investigated for inappropriate behavior after the Olympic Bribery Scandal was revealed, and in March 1999 he was expelled by the IOC by a vote of 72-16 with one abstention.
