Biography

Ferdinando, Count Lucchesi Palli was from an aristocratic family in the Province of Lucca. He studied law, graduating in 1882 and then took up the family tradition by joining the diplomatic corps, being appointed in that year to Alexandria, Egypt. In 1888 Lucchesi Palli was named Vice-Consul in Paris where he was serving during the 1894 Sorbonne Congress. The Federazione Ginnastica Nazionale (FGN) was unable to send an observer to the Sorbonne Congress, but recommended Lucchesi Palli who did attend the Congress. He enthusiastically supported the work of the Congress, writing a report in August 1894 for the bulletin of the FGN. Because of his diplomatic duties, Lucchesi Palli resigned from the IOC in September 1894, serving for the shortest term of any IOC Member (through 2019).
