Biography

Alejandro Rivera studied at the University of Chile where he boxed and competed in athletics. He later became a lawyer. Rivera became director of the Chilean Olympic Committee in 1944 and was President of the National Sports Council from 1947-61. He was also the President of the Chilean Boxing Federation and Athletics Federation and led the Chilean Olympic Team at the 1948, 1956, and 1960 Olympic Games. Rivera was co-opted onto the IOC in June 1955 and was a member until his death in March 1985.
