Biography

From a prominent New York family, Bartow Weeks lived in that city most of his life. He attended City College of New York (CCNY ‘79), and earned a law degree from Columbia in 1883. He became a well-known lawyer in the city, starting with the firm of Anderson & Man, serving as assistant district attorney for seven years. He also entered politics with less success, but always continued to practice law, mainly real estate law, representing clients in several highly publicized trials. Weeks was a prominent member of Tammany Hall and was active in its councils. He was first appointed to the New York Supreme Court in 1913, and was elected to that court in 1914, serving until his death in 1922. Weeks was President of the AAU in 1898-99 and served as President of the New York Athletic Club (1892-94) and was on the Board of Directors of the NYAC for several years. He was made head of the New York Boxing Commission in 1911. Weeks was named to the IOC in 1918, spending four years as a member until his death, attending one of 3 possible IOC Sessions.
