Biography

John Novotny competed in the 5 km cross-county event for blind skiiers at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. His guide was Craig Ward. Novotny was blind since the age of two. He stayed very active throughout his life and began skiing in high school. Novotny won a silver medal at the 1990 World Championships in cross-country for blind skiiers. Novotny graduated from Illinois State University and then earned a masters’ degree in psychology from the school. He had a psychotherapy practice in Breckenridge, Colorado. Novotny died at age 43 from a brain tumor.
