Biography

Peter Colfs was considered to be a Neo-Expressionist, who mainly painted portraits, still lifes, cityscapes and allegorical figures, although he was also known for monumental murals. His most famous work was a tapestry called Triumph of Peace, which was given to the United Nations by the Belgian government in 1954 as a present. He studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts from 1923-31, and taught there beginning in 1936. In 1933, he was awarded the Prix de Rome.
